We have just moved, our fall/late 1997 computer problems seem solved, we
have a public office**, and now we can really get organized and get going.
It's great.  Please drop by, everyone is welcome.

VAAA NEWS:

Bylaws and Membership - With the ratification and registration of new bylaws
for VAAA (Sept. & Dec. 1997), VAAA has expanded its board and begun the
process of membership recruitment (look for a January 1998 mailout - if you
want to be on that list please contact the VAAA office).

The 1997/98 VAAA Board: Organization Board Members:  Elizabeth Allen,
Calgary; Kathy Buse, Edmonton; Leslee Greenaway, Edmonton; Marion Ordon,
High River; Jim Painter, Edmonton; Kristina White, Barrhead. Individual
Board Members: Joan Brownell, Sherwood Park; Bob Bruce, Edmonton; Pat
Hogaboam, Edmonton; Pat Pelletier, Red Deer; Suzanne Scott, Edmonton; Nancy

The VAAA Executive Committee is: President - Jim Painter, Edmonton;

VAAA Standing Policy Committee for Community Services Presentation - Nov.24
- This presentation allowed Members of the VAAA Executive Committee and its
Executive Director to provide information on and discuss the visual arts in
Alberta.  The Standing Policy Committee reviews, makes recommendations and
monitors policies, programs and legislation pertaining to social
development, culture, individual rights, the arts, justice, recreation,
seniors, the disabled, children and the family.  VAAA will continue to
provide information to this committee, to provide your input please contact
the VAAA office.

AFA updates from 12 December Provincial Arts Service Organizations Meeting:
-Media Arts now part of Art Travelling Exhibition program; -Arts Study
grant: no change to program unless demonstrate equivalency of quality;
-Project grants: documentation required to request an extension; -Handbook
for Jurors / Projected Jurors, will soon be printed and sent out to PASOs;
-Community Lottery Boards - Field Service Offices for Alberta Community
Development (ACD) being used, cheques come through ACD with recommendation
by the Boards, RECOMMEND to get cultural-oriented people onto these boards.

PASOs updates from 12 December Meeting: Executive Committee for Affiliated
PASOs: Chair-Susan Sax-Willock (VAAA), Vice-Chair - Bobbi Westman (Alberta
Dance Alliance), Secretary - Kathy Classen (Theatre Alberta), term until May
1998; -EPAC/CPAA representatives: decision to maintain presence through
current PASOs members in these two organizations.

Alberta Cultural Human Resources Steering Committee - The committee is
currently working at gathering research & survey material from across the
province, potentially hiring a researcher inorder to consolidate this
material and look for gaps.  We urge you to attend any Alberta Advanced
Education and Career Development regional information sessions in your area.
If you do please forward a synopsis of that meeting to VAAA.  -Executive
