Preservation Microfilming Workshop to be Held in
Sacramento, CA


     The Northeast Document Conservation Center
(NEDCC) will present a three day workshop on
preservation microfilming May 13-15, 1996 at the
California State Library in Sacramento.  The program
is designed to train project administrators in libraries,
archives, and other research institutions to plan,
implement, and manage filming projects.  It will also
present information on digital technologies and their
role in hybrid systems.  In addition, participants will
learn skills for planning preservation microfilming
projects; for selecting materials for filming; for
developing specifications; and for writing contracts
with vendors.  The workshop is funded by the National
Endowment for the Humanities, The Pew Charitable
Trusts, and The H.W. Wilson Foundation.

     Faculty will include Susan Wrynn, Director of
Reprographic Services, NEDCC; Andrew Raymond,
Regional Advisory Officer, New York State Archives;
Lisa Fox, Preservation Consultant; Bob Mottice,
President, Mottice Micrographics Inc.  Guest speakers
will be Robert MacKimmie, Curatorial Director of
Photography, North Baker Research Library, California
Historical Society and Ann Swartzell, Head, Library
Photographic Services and Preservation Replacement,
Conservation Department, University of California
Library, Berkeley.

     The cost to participants is $210.  The price of
the workshop includes the cost of Preservation
Microfilming: A Guide for Librarians and Archivists,
2d ed., edited by Lisa Fox, Preservation Consultant.  If
a participant does not wish to order the book, the cost
of the workshop is $150.
