Subject: Re: FW: [Smoking Pipe]

about the clay pipe that you found, the best source if info would be to
contact the society for clay pipe research. they do have a web page, but
eh last time i went there it was pretty poor, but it does have their
mailing and contact addresses. otherwise, i would suggest two members who
are willing to offer their services to help identify the pipe:

Ron Dagnall
14 Old Lane, Rainford, St. Helens, Lancs, Wa11 8JE

Peter Hammond
68 Byron Rd. West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 6DX

you don't have to be a member for them to help, but unfortunately they
don't ahve email. My own experience with pipes is pretty much limited to
West Country pipes. but a dutch pipeafter 1650 is easily
distinguishable from an english pipe. they are better quality, they have
a different parallel angle between the lip and the bowl, and they ar emore
egg-shape. but, these two guys can easily direct you to someone.
otherwise, try the series "the archaeology the clay pipe" it now has 14
volumes, with a number of essays on dutch pipes. also, adrian oswald's
book on clay pipes is a classic and contains a section on dutch pipes,
although it is somewaht outdate and the pictures are terrible. there are
lots of pipe enthusiasts out there, so i'm sure you'll receive lots of
responses.

hpe this helps
adrienne
