Robert,
I would suggest the Museum of Modern Art gift shop as a good place to see
contemporary design in New York City...also some of the other museum shops
such as the Guggenheim and American Craft Museum.
For commercial galleries in the crafts/design area I like the John Elder
Gallery in Chelsea at 529 W. 20th St., 7th floor, New York, NY 10011.
Heller Gallery at 420 W. 14th St, New York, NY 10014 is tops for glass art.
