I attended a Christmas entertainment at a historic plantation in Virginia where food was served. They limited where you could have it in the main foyer and outside.

Hope this helps.

Hi Christian,

We do not open the house to outside groups wishing to hold receptions. We
do, however, hold a few gatherings a year, usually for new exhibits,
tourism commission meetings, holidays, etc., at which we may have
refreshments. We are fortunate enough to have a visitor information
center-- in the back of the house-- in which we can place a couple of card
tables and invite visitors to graze there.

Larger occasions we will sometimes cover a table in the House's dining room
(!) and have the refreshments in there. The consumption of the food and
drink is to be contained within that room, and the fare is usually no more
complicated than coffee and cookies, maybe croissant sandwiches, things
that are simple and easy to clean up.

I hope this helps a little.
