In the program PastPerfect you have a 'recieved as' field and then a
'status' field which can be different.  So you could have it as recieved
in 1970 then made a gift, and therefore legal possesion of the object
transfered to you, in 2005.  This way you would still have it marked as
recieved in 1970 when it actually arrived at the museum and then just a
note that legal title was transfered in 2005.  It is two different ways of
looking at it, the most important thing is to be consistant with the way
you do it so what ever way you do it now, continue to do it in the future.
