Hi!
I saw your posting on Museum-L and had to e-mail when I saw the name of your museum. My last name is Nickles and finding the same spelling, at least here in the states, has meant finding a relative.

My husband's family lore has it that the first Nickles came over from Ireland in the early 1800s. The name was always spelled with an "s" on the end until two brothers got into such a terrible argument that one of them dropped the "s" from his name and they never spoke again. Therefore, we consider everyone with the second spelling to be "cousins" too.

There's no reason for this e-mail, although I would be interested in hearing about the museum. I just thought someone would like to know the story from here in the states.
