I had a couple of thoughts that
might be helpful.

One--the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County has a museum archives. I don't
know if they still do, but for many years that archive had its own archivist. There
may be policies in the place for what, how much, how long, etc.

Two--The Society of American Archivists put out (back in the 70s) a booklet about
creating and maintaining museum archives. I don't know if it's still available, but
it was very useful.

Both of these entities have web sites. I don't know the addresses, but they're easy
to look up on google, yahoo, whatever.

Good luck.
