Some of the big issues for us at the moment are;
the impact of technology on collection managment and interpretation -
image capture, barcoding, multimedia, etc.
object based compared to experience based exhibitions - competing with
the movie worlds, etc
increasing costs and public expectations in a context of shrinking govt.
funding - sponsorship
hope this helps

Subject: Australian Museums - the "Big" issues....
Date: Wednesday, September 18, 1996 19:41

Hi....

This is addressed to all those who are working in Australian museums.
I've just got back from the UK where I've been doing my Masters in
Museums Studies and I'm applying for a job here where one of the
selection criteria is "knowledge of current issues in Queensland and
Australian museums".

Well, my dissertation is on the repatriation of human remains from
European museums, so I know a fair bit about that issue, but
otherwise I've been a bit out of touch...

Can Anyone enlighten me?

Cheers,

Peter Appleton
