Exhibits Engineer

Description: The Exhibits Engineer is a full-time, exempt position which uses a
diverse technical background to maintain, refurbish and/or upgrade the museum's
current and future exhibits.

Requirements: Experience with personal computers or workstations and/or
supporting equipment or software.  Solid experience with operating systems
(Windows 95/98/NT) is required.  Some programming experience (e.g. Visual
Basic, C, Visual C++, and/or database) is required.  Unix experience is
desirable.  Experience in electronic test maintenance and use of test
equipment.  Able to read electronic schematics and specifications.  Bachelor's
degree in Engineering or equivalent with four or more years of experience.
 Able to repair complex failures in exhibit equipment.  Experience in wood,
plastics and Plexiglas and/or metal fabrication desirable.  Ability to read
blueprints and construction diagrams desirable.  Knowledge of safe shop
procedures and equipment use required.  Experience in the use of power tools,
shop equipment and other heavy work tools desirable. Valid CA driver's license
and good driving record.

Engineering Assistant (part time)

Description: The Engineering Assistant reports to the Operations Engineering
Manager and assists in the regular operation and maintenance of exhibits within
the museum.

Requirements: One or more years of college education or equivalent. Experience
with PCs, workstations, supporting equipment, software and Windows. Experience
in electronic test and maintenance and use of test equipment desirable as well
as the ability to read electronic schematics and specifications. Ability to
read blueprints and construction diagrams. Valid California driver's license
and good driving record.
