I would like to announce four internship opportunities at the South
Carolina State Museum.

1. Summer, 1997: Education Intern. Intern will review, evaluate,
and update current school programs in one of the museum's four
disciplines (art, natural history, science & technology, cultural
history) for grades K4-12. Intern will also propose, research, and
develop new school programs and public programs in one of the museum's
disciplines.

2. Fall, 1997: Cultural History Intern. The intern will do
research for an exhibit entitled "Free Blacks in South Carolina."
The information and artifacts identified from this research can be
used to expand the current permanent exhibition on Blacks in South
Carolina and will also be used to develop a traveling exhibit.

3. Fall, 1997: Discovery Center Intern. Choice of 2 projects.
Project #1, Program Intern: Intern will present interdisciplinary
school programs in the Stringer Discovery Center, assist with
interpretation of the Center, and create a family or school program
for the Center. Project #2, Evaluation Intern: Intern will evaluate
hands-on exhibits and discovery boxes in the Stringer Discovery
Center, as well as create a new discovery box for the Center.

4. Fall, 1997: Natural History Intern. Intern will develop a
marking protocol for the natural history specimens in the museum
collection. The final report would include drawings of the locations
of the various places on the different kinds of specimens where
numbers would go and a notebook of tag types and locations.

Unfortunately, interns will not be paid. Application deadline for
Summer, 1997 is March 30; Fall, 1997, April 15.
