Katie,
Are you wanting to use these objects educationally or for exhibits?   
Because if it is education then they should remain in an education  
collection and not a part of the permanent collection.  Anything that  
my museum deaccessions can be moved to the education collection and it  
is know that the item does not receive the same level of care then the  
permanent collection.  Any item in the education collection is tracked  
by the education coordinator.  I hope this helps.
