Internship Opportunity

Special Projects Assistant
Lubbock Lake Landmark
Museum of Texas Tech University

Lubbock Lake Landmark, an archaeological  and natural history preserve, is
offering a nine-month, paid internship as a Special Projects Assistant for
the Llano Estacado Wildflower Trails Project beginning February 2000. The
student intern will work in a team-based collaborative environment,
reporting to both the Landmark's Museum Educator and the Director of the
Lubbock Lake Landmark.

  Duties are project-oriented and include:

*       organizational and administrative duties such as scheduling
meetings, developing production timelines, maintaining budgets,
*       assisting in development and execution of trail planning and
front-end and formative evaluations of same
*       providing assistance with a volunteer program that provides
opportunities for individuals from on and off campus to participate in the
trails activities of the Landmark
*       assisting with planning and implementation of public programming
initiatives such as workshops and lectures associated with thte trails
project
*       developing methods to evaluate training and public programming
initiatives
*       assisting with public communication activities such as newsletter
writing, press releases/advertising, and promotional materials
*       researching and preparing funding applications
*       other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of outdoor recreation
and interpretaion programs and facilities, volunteer coordination, and
evaluation techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills are required,
including the ability to deal effectively with people of varying experience
and expertise. Excellent organizational skills, written and oral
communication skills are required, as is a proficiency with computers and
word processing. The candidate must be able to work simultaneously on
multiple, diverse tasks. Current enrollment in a graduate museum science,
landscape architecture, or outdoor recreation and interpretation program or
recent graduate is preferred.
