Does a standard exist for the ideal proportion of public spaces compared to
support spaces in a non-collecting art gallery? We are helping a small
gallery in assessing its potential, and need to be able to suggest to them
a way to plan for future growth. If they have x amount of public space
(galleries, lecture hall, etc.), how much support space (offices, workshop,
storage, etc.) should they plan to have? Is there a formula which can be
applied? We are seeking the ideal proportion here, not the reality most of
us have to face. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
