My fellows Museum-L'ers,

As part of a class assignment and investigation of my family history, I
am developing an exhibit on my great-grandfather, William Tecumseh Scheib,
who was a private in the 16th Iowa Infantry, and fought at Shiloh and
Corinth.

My goal is to research WTS's history and use his experiences as a vehicle
to explore more general topics of who became soldiers and why, life
in the army, and what issues these men faced as vetrans in the years
following the war.

I will begin my investigations here at the National Archives, but I could
use some advice on other museums/historical societies/libraries to contact
elsewhere. I'm especially interested in addresses (and contacts?) in Iowa
(State Historical Societies?) and the area around Shiloh, TN.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
