It's HTML (HyperText Markup Language), and it makes your email try to look
more like a web page - colors, fonts, backgrounds... and it makes a mess in
digest form and on older systems.

In MS Outlook, go to Tools, then Options, then Send, then look for "mail
sending format" and check "plain text". That will do it. For other email
programs, there's probably a very similar option, or look in the "help"
menu.
