>There are many different types of volunteers who volunteer for just as many
different reasons. Many do it for work experience, contacts, 'testing the
water' and many others want to give something to an organisation and their
community.<

Well said...many volunteers that I know of (and I'm not even in the field
yet!) are there because they enjoy giving back to the community or they don't
want to make a career out of what for them is a hobby. I also have a friend
who is volunteering to find out what she wants to get her masters in, so I
can see how volunteering would be beneficial.

I think that volunteering is a great way to gain experience for your resume,
if only that had been stressed more when I was an undergraduate, but oh well,
the only thing I can do now is make time to volunteer to build my resume,
even if I'm starting to get a little down on the job search (its only been a
year), I need to look at it as if the right job for me just hasn't come along
yet but is lingering in the shadows someplace! :o)

Anyway, glad this debate started because it makes me look at what I need to
do to advance myself.

Thanks
Stacey
