Either route could work for you in some situations and against you in others.
 I am seven years out of my MA and have built my career as a registrar moving
back and forth between art museums and history museums.  What some may view
as versatility others may view as flighty.  The most important thing:  the
museums field, like every field, needs people who are truely good at what
they do.  Belive in yourself and keep pushing for your goals.  View all
setbacks as a temporary interruption to your progress.  Good luck!
