Our organization is in the midst of some strategic planning and one thing we're trying to do is link the efforts of the marketing/public relations and development departments together. I would appreciate it if Ms. Wagner and others at institutions that coordinate the efforts of these departments could share some thoughts with me on that. For example, do you have a single mission statement or overall goal toward which these departments work?

I believe all of the major New York City museums, and most of the smaller
ones as well, have multiple full-time staff people who do the jobs you
describe.  At the Whitney, Development and Marketing are linked, in part to
better target our efforts.
