Zouave soldiers' uniforms would be eyecatching, too.

Seriously, our front line staff wears polo shirts with museum logo and name
embroidered on the left front: one color for visitor services (terra cotta
with gold -- dark yellow, not metallic! -- embroidery); a different color
for security (oatmeal with chocolate embroidery); a third color for staff
that work in the Museum Store (charcoal with gold embroidery). (The Museum
Store staff were originally going to wear the same color as Visitor Service
personnel, but it clashed with the store fixtures!) At present, our
education staff wears yet another color -- theirs in a different style polo
since they were the first to be "uniformed" and the idea of standardizing
was adopted after they already had a stock of shirts.

Not particularly imaginative, but very effective relative to visitors being
able to easily identify staff.

Our official shirts come from Lands End: there are less costly alternatives,
but we got a bunch of samples and subjected them to wear-wash-and-dry tests
and the heavier, all-cotton version was preferred for comfort, wearability,
and color.

Ho hum, right? But Lands End actually asked permission to use one of our
shirts as a catalog sample!

Walt Disney characters would be fun.
