Not seeing the object before me makes it difficult, but offhand I would
suggest padding out the torso around some form of rigid pipe or armature,
perhaps one shaped like a T (for a single leg support) or an inverted U (for
dual leg support). This would give you something to support the shoulders
and take the weight of the garment. The single leg of the T or both legs of
the U would extend to the floor from under the coat and behind one or both
of the leggings (not through them). I would lightly pad and,using an
unobtrusive fabric that blends visually with the piece, cover the exposed
portions of the pipe(s) that extend beyond the coat and come into contact
with the leggings. The support would still be visible if this is shown in
the round, but it wouldn't be too obtrusive.
