Dear all,

for all of you who are not already familiar with this project:

Good documentation is invisible. While that's a good thing for the daily
work in the museum because a well documented collection saves time and
money in literally every department, it's a bad thing when it comes to
funding. Because nobody knows or wants to know what it takes to maintain
a high-standard documentation the willingness to care for it - and pay
for it - is low. So, raising awareness is an important issue.

Rupert Shepherd Documentation Manager at Horniman Museum & Gardens in
London suggested that in order to make documentation work more visible,
everyone who works in the field of museum documentation tweets once a
day what he does and why this is important using the hashtag
#MuseumDocumentation.

You can read what Rupert blogged about the project at the Horniman's
website:
http://www.horniman.ac.uk/get_involved/blog/museum-documentation

At Registrar Trek we storified the beginning of this effort and some of
the first tweets:
http://world.museumsprojekte.de/?p=3692

Even those first tweets reveal that documentation is not at all boring.
Indeed, sometimes it's really fun. I hope many of you who work behind
the scenes in museum documentation will join and keep the public
informed what you do tweeting #MuseumDocumentation

Best wishes!
Angela
