In 1988 I wrote a report on an extensive survey I conducted on behalf of the
Association of Systematics Collections and the Association of Science Museum
Directors. "Endangered and Orphaned Natural History and Anthropology
Collections in the United States and Canada" was published in Collection
Forum, vol. 4, no 2, pp. 65-74. This is the journal of the Society for the
Preservation of Natural History Collections.

A section of that paper deals with deaccessioning practices.

Admittedly it is a decade old, but it was comprehensive and I suspect many of
the policies remain essentially the same.

I have a few copies remaining which I will mail to interested parties. Once I
run out, please refer to the journal itself.
