Mackinac Island State Park Commission
Mackinac State Historic Parks

Mackinac State Historic Parks is located in one of the most scenic areas in Michigan and is a leader in all areas of museum operations. With an average annual visitation of 390,000 to the historic sites and grounds and another 800,000 to Mackinac Island, MSHP is one of the most visited history museum systems in the nation! Mackinac Island is located in the blue waters of the Straits of Mackinac surrounded by Lake Huron. The shorelines of Mackinaw City are dotted with sandy beaches that touch both Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

Surrounded by this beauty, Mackinac State Historic Parks has three historic site museums located in park settings: Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island (established in 1780), Colonial Michilimackinac (1715) in Mackinaw City, and Historic Mill Creek (early 19th century) located three miles south of Mackinaw City.

Our parks offer a unique opportunity to work in the beautiful Mackinac Straits area where you can always find something to do! Activities include hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, sailing, biking, kayaking, and shopping. During the season, many activities and festivals provide inexpensive or free entertainment.
