In response to Mark Friedman's inquiry regarding rare book stands,
Harvard's Chief Book Conservator Nicholas Pickwoad recently intro-
duced a new book cradle, in which the angle of both supports is
adjustable. Supports can be moved apart or together to accommodate
books of different thicknesses. A prototype is available for
use in the Houghton Library, Harvard University. Inquiries or
comments on the stand can be sent directly to NIcholas Pickwoad at 617-436-5127
or [log in to unmask], or to Dennis Marnon,
Administrative Offier in the Houghton Library at 617-495-2441 or
