Position Opening at the Civil War Preservation Trust
Assistant to the Director of Education

The Civil War Preservation Trust is a private non-profit organization
devoted to the preservation of Civil War battlefields. In addition, the CWPT
conducts education activities designed to inform the general public about
the war, its significance, and the need for preservation. The CWPT is
located in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. More information may be
found at the website, www.civilwar.org.

Duties:

*       Coordinate existing traveling exhibit, Voices of the Civil War.
(Develop associated community programs and curriculum guides, establish
traveling itinerary, organize shipping details, oversee issues of
maintenance, copyright, and insurance.)

*       Write history or preservation-related articles and compile images
for 32-page quarterly magazine, website, and media outlets.

*       Conduct research and assist with development of Civil War Explorer
multimedia computer exhibit.

*       Coordinate battlefield site interpretation plans and driving tour
brochures.

*       Assist with a variety of other programs as assigned.

Qualifications:

Excellent writing ability and organizational skills are essential. A
thorough knowledge of computer word processing is required and familiarity
with HTML is helpful. The successful candidate also will have demonstrated
the ability to work independently. A background in history, preservation, or
museum studies is preferred and the candidate must have an interest in the
Civil War or preservation.
