Maria,

When you say an "archival collection", are you talking about your
newspaper run?  Are the newspapers anything special?  A great rarity
worth plenty of money?  Civil War?  Colonial?  Any reason the
newspapers shouldn't be in public hands?

Assuming this is a run of an ordinary 20th century town newspaper and
not some specialized collection, I'd say you're lucky to have him.
Go for it.  Who gets the originals?  If you don't want them, maybe
your benefactor would like to have them.  Otherwise they'll probably
end up in the trash.
