A "Members Only" section to a web site seems like a marginal idea. Particularly for a small museum. 

The only way it makes sense is if you have material available which provides substantial value to potential members. If a museum had significant digitized archives they are only able to search if they are members. The content would have to be compelling.  To create a members only area just to say that "we made it just for you"would seem to have little real value.
