Here is Shedd Aquarium's policy
John G. Shedd Aquarium
Policy/Procedure Statement

        Computer Systems

The John G. Shedd Aquarium maintains extensive computer hardware and
software systems to assist staff and volunteers in performing their
official duties and to provide educational opportunities for visitors.
These systems, all components and contents, as well as other data stored
on or transmitted by Aquarium-owned equipment, are the property of the
John G. Shedd Aquarium.

System Standards

Compatibility, portability and transfer of work products is essential in
a team environment. As a result, the Aquarium maintains standards for
operating systems and software to help ensure compatibility with current
and future systems as well as easy transfer of information among users.

The Manager of Information Systems is to review all requests for
specialty software and computer-related equipment to ensure its
compatibility with existing systems and that system requirements are
met. Similarly, all purchases of hardware, software and peripherals
must be approved by the Manager of Information Systems.

Software

The unauthorized duplication and use of Aquarium-owned software and/or
documentation is strictly prohibited. Software owned by or licensed to
the Aquarium may not be copied or distributed over a network or copies
provided to bulletin boards or other services without the written
approval of the President of the Aquarium.

Software (including personally owned software) that is not licensed to
the Aquarium or that violates copyright law may not be loaded on any
machine owned by the institution. Aquarium networks and individual
machines may be reviewed at any time for the existence of unauthorized
software. Any such software will be immediately removed.

Installation

The Information Systems Department is responsible for installation of
computer hardware, software and peripherals. All software is to be
screened for viruses by the Information Systems Department. The
Department is also responsible for retaining proof of proper licensing
of the software, such as end-user license agreements, original disks,
receipts, and documentation.
Electronic Products

The Aquarium maintains a Web presence at a fully licensed electronic
domain address. Electronic products located on or licensed to other
domain addresses are not authorized by the Shedd Aquarium and do not
represent the Aquarium's views. All other electronic products produced
by Shedd Aquarium are the property of the Shedd Aquarium and are
licensed and protected under the law as Intellectual Property.
