Hi Lizzetta,

Having worked to create a custom exhibition database in the past, I would suggest that this is not a good idea for you.  You already have a small staff, and spending the time required to design and implement a database (even in something as friendly as Filemaker) would be counter-productive.  Past Perfect is cheap and easy to learn, but it's really aimed at collections management, not exhibit design.  However, a good collections management system is a good first step, and combined with the office software that you probably already have and some general project management skills, Past Perfect would probably be a great help in your exhibit design process.
