Connie,

How cold does the freezer get?  Are there different requirements for
different objects on how long they must remain in the freezer?  Or is the
recommendation below just overkill?

The best thing to do is wrap it in tissue then in plastic and place it in a
freezer at -20C for 2 weeks. This would hopefully kill any insects or their
eggs. If you can't freeze then wrap in in tissue and plastic for 2 weeks
and check every few days for signs of insects (dropping or casings). Other
than that a periodic bug check while on display should keep you safe.
