Spread the word! Funding is still available for the 2000 Conservation Assessment Program (CAP).
CAP grants are awarded to eligible museums on a first-come, first-served basis and funding is still available for the 2000 application cycle. Interested museums are encouraged to submit their materials as soon as possible. Applications must be postmarked by December 1, 1999.

CAP is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and administered by Heritage Preservation. The program provides funding for professional conservators to conduct a general survey of a museum's collections, environmental conditions, and sites. The assessment process and resulting reports can help museums develop strategies for improved collections care, long-range planning, and fund-raising.
Museums with collections and sites that can be surveyed in two days may apply for CAP. Institutions with living collections may use CAP to assess conservation needs of both their living and non-living collections. Museums located in historic structures (buildings more than 50 years old) will also be awarded an architectural assessor. CAP requires recipients to contribute a modest match to meet full assessment costs.

The 2000 CAP application may be downloaded from Heritage Preservation's web site at www.heritagepreservation.org. To receive a hard copy of the application, or for more information, please contact Kyra Skvir at [log in to unmask], 202-634-1422, or Conservation Assessment Program, Heritage Preservation, 1730 K Street, NW, Suite 566, Washington, DC 20006-3836.
