I know of no correspondance courses in conservation, and
honestly, I wouldn't recommend that anyway- just like
I would avoid a surgeon who did med school in that manner.
Artifact conservation really needs hands-on learning in a functioning lab.
The program at Texas A&M (my alma mater) maintains an online
manual however, used in it's conservation courses, which is quite
handy to have around, and a good source of learing. Take a look at:
http://nautarch.tamu.edu/napcrl.htm and
http://nautarch.tamu.edu/class/ANTH605/File0.htm
There are also some good resources to be found at:
http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/
Good luck,
Bryan
