     Note:  ONLY THE TOP THREE SCORING CANDIDATES CAN BE CONSIDERED.  Your
     application will be rated and ranked and listed in score order based on
     your responses to the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's, listed
     below under Method of Evaluation).  It is highly recommended that you
     respond to theKSA's.



     POSITION:  Archives Technician, GS-1421-7.  The position is TERM, not to
     exceed 13 months.  The appointment may be extended, depending upon the
     needs of the agency.  TERM appointments provide full benefits, including
     health and life insurance, a pension plan, and matching contribution
     system.

     QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must have either one year of related
experience
     equivalent to the next lower grade level.



     DUTIES: The incumbent is involved in the cataloging of
     approximately 15,000volumes in the Edison Library.  Incumbent will
     catalog these volumes by creating MARC records using Minaret
     software and museum records using ANCS+software; obtaining and
     re-keying copy cataloging from RLIN or OCLC through a current
     member institution; and, identifying volumes in need of
     conservation  treatment and arranging for treatment through the
     National Park Service.

     LOCATION:  West Orange, New Jersey

     to do so under the Selective Service Law.

     skill and ability requirements outlined below.  This

     1. Knowledge of library cataloging procedures and standards.

     2. Knowledge of archival practices and standards.


     3. Ability to research and evaluate historical material.


     4. Ability to operate computers, printers, software and related
     material.

     Veterans Preference: A 5-point preference is granted to veterans who
     entered  the military service prior to October 15, 1976, or who
     served in a military   action for which they received a Campaign
     Badge or Expeditionary Medal.  In   addition, you are entitled to
     5-point preference if you served on active duty during the Gulf War
     from August 2, 1990 through January 2, 1992, regardless of
     where you served or for how long.  The law also authorizes the
Secretary of
       each military department to award the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal
     for service in Bosnia during the period of November 20, 1995 to a date

     AREA INFORMATION - Edison National Historic Site is located in West
Orange,
     New Jersey, a suburban community on the western fringe of the greater
NY/NJ
     metropolitan area.  The Site contains several historic buildings
including
     Thomas Edison's research Laboratory and his home, Glenmont, an 1880
     Victorian Mansion.  Rents in the area are high.  THERE IS NO GOVERNMENT
     HOUSING.

     Displaced Employees Requesting Special Selection Priority
     Consideration under
     the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP)



     If you are a displaced Federal employee you may be entitled to receive
     special
     priority selection under the ICTAP.  To receive this priority
     consideration
     you must:



     1.  Be a displaced Federal employee.  You must submit a copy of the

     appropriate documentation such as a RIF separation notice, a letter
     from OPM
     or your agency documenting your priority consideration status with
     your
     application package.  The following categories of candidates are
     considered
     displaced employees.



         A.  Current or former career or career-conditional (tenure group I
     or II)
     competitive service employees who:



     1. Received a specific RIF separation notice; or

     2. Separated because of a compensable injury, whose Compensation has
     been
     terminated, and whose former    agency certifies that it is unable to
     place;
     or

     3. Retired with a disability and whose disability annuity has been or
     is being
     terminated; or

     4. Upon receipt of a RIF separation notice retired on   the effective
     date of
     the RIF and submits a Standard Form 50 that indicates "Retirement in
     lieu   of
     RIF"; or

     5. Retired under discontinued service retirement option; or

     6. Separated because he/she declined a transfer of function or
     directed
     reassignment to another commuting area.

         B.  Former military Reserve or National Guard Technicians who are

     receiving a special Office of Personnel Management (OPM) disability
     retirement
     annuity under section 8337(h) or 8456 of Title 5 United States Code.



     2.  Be applying for a position that is at or below the grade level of
     the
     position from which you have been separated.  The position must not
     have a
     greater promotion potential than the position from which you were
     separated.
     3.  Have a current (or last) performance rating of record of at least
     fully
     successful or equivalent.  This must be submitted with your
     application
     package.  (this requirement does not apply to candidates who are
     eligible due
     to compensable injury or disability retirement.)

     4. Occupy or be displaced from a position in the same local commuting
     area of
     the position for which you are requesting priority consideration.
