You can put as many pictures on a PP slide as you want or even run concurrent
presentations on dual screens if you have two projectors.

As for CDs being obsolete: by the time they are, there will be a way to
transfer you CD images to the new format. Definitely keep your slides but I
wouldn't worry about CD technology going away any time soon.
