Photograph and Map Collection Internship
Summer 2002

The Waterford Historical Museum is seeking a collection intern for the
summer of 2002. Located in Waterford, New York, a town of 10,000 people
just north of Albany, the Museum features a permanent exhibition about the
history of Waterford and two Victorian period rooms. The Museum also
contains a research library and sponsors exhibitions, programs, and
workshops related to this area's rich history.

The Museum houses a collection of over 2,000 photographs and over 50 maps,
spanning from the early 1800s to the present. Working closely with the
director and a consultant, the intern will:
1. Catalogue the photograph and map collection, including accessioning,
labeling, and photographing and/or scanning the objects
2. Clean and re-house the objects
3. Determine the arrangement of the objects in storage
4. Research the objects to determine their type and provenance
5. Complete catalog worksheets for each object

The intern will work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with
a half an hour for lunch. The internship will last for 11 weeks, and take
place sometime between May and September. The internship pays a stipend of
$3,000.00. The Museum will also assist the intern in finding housing, and
is willing to complete any necessary paperwork for the intern to receive
academic credit. Applicants should be current students or graduates from an
M.A. program in museum studies or a related field. Experience in
collections management is required, and knowledge of historic photograph and
map care is highly desirable.

To apply, please send a letter of interest and a resume by April 1, 2002 to:
