Hi Tim,
A few years back the curator and I were given the opportunity to make a
presentation to our foundation (our money-raising organization) about
collections storage at their annual meeting. We were at a crisis point
with little rented off-site storage spaces scattered around town, and all
of them full. I went around the state and took slides of some of the best
off-site storage facilities at other museums and contrasted this with
slides of our situation (which was rather pathetic).
The very next week our foundation told us to go shopping for a warehouse.
Within a month they had purchased a 14,000 square foot building dedicated
to collections storage. Sometimes, all you have to do is ask. It worked
for us.
Sincerely,
David Ryan
