> Smithsonian is going to offer a workshop on diitizing images....

An alternative that may be of interest to some of you might be
"Introduction to Image Databases", a one-day workshop preceding the
MCN/CHIN annual conference in October.

Date: Tuesday, October 29, 10 am — 5 pm.
Instructor: Howard Besser, Univ. of California at Berkeley
Location: (Ottawa) Dept. of Canadian Heritage, 25 Eddy St., Hull
Level: Beginner

"This workshop explores ... the design, management, and creation of
image databases ... image capture, storage, display, networking,
standards and copyright. ... The bias will be towards digital storage of
images.

"It is intended for museum professional with little knowledge of the
issues... The goal is to give participants the knowledge needed to
engage in image database projects for their collections."

A second workshop on the following day, also given by Howard Besser,
will address "Intermediate/Advanced Issues in Image Databases"

And if you go... welcome to Canada. When you see Ottawa, you'll know why
I recommend it!
