What is the latest consensus on the most appropriate gloves to use for
handling metal? I know there have been studies finding that chlorides
used in the making of nitrile gloves may tarnish metals. A chemist at
Ansell (our glove manufacturer) has told us sulphur is used in the
vulcanizing of their gloves, so we are concerned that any residue may
damage our metal artifacts. How are other institutions handling this
problem? I should also mention that a big concern is for handling
metals that are a part of our Native American collections, since other
materials within the collection have likely been treated with pesticides
in the past. We definitely need a stronger barrier than cotton
gloves.

Thanks,
Diana
