Maybe the donor did not understand how copyright works? We have alot of
deeds of gifts with copyrights signed over for photographs taken by
professional photographers, published by someone else, things they bought,
etc. Go back and look at the photograph and what it came with and see, if
you did not have a deed of gift, where you would have thought the copyright
belonged to.
