FUNDING STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE CONSERVATION ASSESSMENT PROGRAM!

The Conservation Assessment Program (CAP) is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and administered by Heritage Preservation (formerly the National Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Property). CAP provides matching grants for a general conservation assessment or survey of a museum's collections, environmental conditions and sites. Conservation priorities are identified by professional conservators who spend two days on-site and three days writing a report. Reports produced by conservators help museums develop strategies for improved collections care and provide a tool for long-range planning and fund-raising.

CAP is designed to serve museums with small- to medium-sized collections and sites that can be surveyed in two days. 1999 CAP applications were mailed on October 9, 1998. Since CAP grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, museums are advised to submit their application materials as soon as possible. Applications must be postmarked before December 4, 1998.
The application may be downloaded from Heritage Preservation’s website at www.heritagepreservation.org. To receive a hard copy of the application or for more information, please contact Kristen Overbeck (off the list) at [log in to unmask]
