World Wide Web Page Design for the Museum Professional

The Ontario Museum Association (OMA) in partnership with University of
Western Ontario presents an online course on World Wide Web Page Design for
the Museum Professional.

Dates: November 3 - December 5, 1997

Fees: $275 (GST included)

The World Wide Web's explosive growth means that anyone can now set up shop
on the Internet and many museums are. Museums are increasingly using the Web
for marketing, sales, information exchange, education and virtual exhibits.

Participants in this five week course starting November 3 will receive an
introduction to HTML programming and build a home page on the Web. The
course is completed entirely on the Internet in a virtual classroom where
everyone can listen and participate. Course materials are provided on a Web
site and the class will correspond via e-mail. There is a minimum 15 hour
time commitment to complete this course.

This online course will cover the basics of Web page creation and design in a
museum context. This includes HTML (HyperText Markup Language), design ideas,
sales and marketing strategies, domain name registration and costs. You will
finish this course with a web site in hand critiqued by the
instructors and fellow participants.

This course is taught by a professional instructor. Members of the OMA
Computer Advisory Committee will provide feedback and museum content to the
discussions. The expertise of this group includes WWW page design at both
large and small institutions, project management and communications in
the museum field.

Prerequisites: Internet connection, comprehension of Netscape Navigator or
Microsoft Explorer, working knowledge of the computer and ability to move
around the file structure to create subdirectories, etc.

Class size is limited to 25 participants.
