Have any of you considered creating a "what would you
like to see next" contest or voting buttons on your
website encouraging the public to become actively
involved in what gets displayed at your institution?

Indigo;

I'm not so sure this would be such a good idea--with the lag time
between identification of an exhibit idea and the actual opening of a
show (I'd say typically 2-3 years), I'd be afraid that many participants
would think they're input was being ignored. And, I can't imagine an
institution where exhibits staff might be just sitting around, waiting
for the web interface to bring them an idea (or even direction on one of
three or four ideas) for next month's exhibit!

About the only way I could see this working is if an institution has a
case devoted to display of unrelated items (perhaps in a lobby, such as
the "New Acquisitions" cases many museums have), and can easily
turn-over the contents of this case in short order. But, perhaps I'm
missing something?
