Colin, I have found, also from experience, that a surface painted with
latex paint can remain tacky for years. I have managed to convince our
exhibits department, which tends to have about two weeks to let paint dry
if we're lucky, that any artifact which will be in contact with a painted
surface have a Mylar "footprint" cut out to separate it from the paint.
This takes time but prevents heartache.
