Perhaps, instead of keeping a visitor *book*, you should provide a stack of
visitor comment *cards* and a drop-box.  These can be pre-stamped and
pre-addressed (granted, that could run to some money) and the drop box
contents regularly dumped into the outgoing mail, or you can pick and choose
which ones to send.  When someone says something nice, you can hand them a
card and say, "Would you please write that down so we can tell the mayor?"

Visitors sometimes write comments in the visitor book, but these tend to be
very general, like "nice display!"  It is always nice to read these types of
comments, but the more detailed comments come from talking directly with
patrons.  The question is, how can I encourage these patrons to tell local
government about their enjoyment of the museum?
