Advice!?

I am trying to get a work of art that needs to be hand-carried (and carried
flat) from Laurel, MS to Washington, D.C. It seems like air travel is not
going to work because no-one can guarantee that I can be with the work of
art at all times. If Joe Blow at the security gate wants to take it out and
paw all over it, pull it out of the frame, whatever, I can't stop him if I
want to get on the plane, and apparently I can't insist on staying with the
work of art at all times. We have been in touch with professional courier
assistance companies, and are not making much progress on that front. Time
is running short, so we are trying to find an alternative - preferably one
that does not involve me riding on a truck with strangers for 24 hours in a
row.

So my question is: how is security handled on trains these days? Do I have
to run a gauntlet to get on the train, too? Has anybody done a courier trip
on the train recently? Any advice or recommendations would be most
welcome.

Thanks -
