Dear Chris and others:

I'm working on a presentation to local government officials about
museums in general, and some facts and figures about how museums
contribute to the local economy would be most helpful - or a reference
to where current data could be found.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Although the persons to whom you are presenting may appreciate economic
figures on a local basis, one general economic publication immediately
comes to mind:

"Partnerships for Prosperity - Museums and Economic
Development," by Peggy Wireman, Ph.D. published by
and available from The American Association of
         Museums.

I encouraged Peggy to write this book and we used it in a recent
Feasibility and Siting Study for The U.S. Coast Guard Museum in the area
of Cultural Tourism. It is a very good publication.

The Association of Science-Technology Centers also has " The Yearbook of
Science Center Statistics," available - also very good economic data.

If you would like to pursue a "full-blown" Economic Study of the
contribution cultural institutions make to your local area, please
contact MSI.

Kind Regards

Roger Wulff
