Greetings,

Please forgive my cross-posting this message.

I am seeking one or two members from the museum and/or K-12 community
to present with me at the Association of Midwest Museums / Illinois
Association of Museums / Iowa Museum Association conference this
September (see http://www.midwestmuseums.org/). I'm looking for
additional presenters in part to lend further credibility to my
proposed topic, how to integrate learning in the museum with learning
in the classroom, and to satisfy the conference’s goal to have
presenters represent a diversity of museums as well as institutions
outside of the industry. If you enlist in this effort, your
obligation can be as limited as a twenty-minute demonstration to
being involved in full-fledged planning.

Below is a brief description of the half-day workshop I envision
leading. I will be notified whether my proposal is accepted in March.
In the meantime, please use the information at the end of this
message to contact me if you might be interested in presenting at the
workshop, know of someone who might be interested, or have suggested
additional resources and case studies that could be used in the
workshop this September.

> Often, gaps can exist between what children learn in museums and in
> their classroom. While these gaps are not harmful or even
> undesirable, they are missed opportunities for learning on a
> deeper, richer level. Participants in this half-day workshop will
> review the experience museums in other regions have had in bridging
> these gaps. They'll then use that experience to help them create a
> framework for integrating their existing educational programming
> with academic standards and their local school districts’
> curricula. The second half of the workshop will be devoted to small
> groups exploring effective use of technology to further integrate
> classroom learning with visits to their museum.

Cheers,
Ned Zimmerman-Bence
