Back when my Scanmaker scanner was working, the color transparencies we had
were easy to scan. They were used when we needed to digitize any of our
color lithographs; the photographer had to be paid to come in to take a good
digital picture. The scanner broke long before I had digitized all of the
images.

The colors seem to be pretty stable in the transparencies. I am keeping
them as documentation of the collection. I hope some day to have the money
to replace the Scanmaker with its 11 x 17 transparency hood and scan the
rest of them.

Erin

Subject: scanning color transparencies

We are in the process of purchasing a new flatbed scanner (with a budget of
around $1000). Has anyone had success scanning color transparencies on a
flatbed, and if so, what brand and model scanner did you use?

How many museums are still using CTs as the "gold standard" for documenting
their collection? We have a fair number of 4 x 5 CTs, but are wondering how
useful it will be to purchase a scanner to scan them if CTs are becoming
less common due to digital media.

Any advice on the topic would be appreciated!
