Informal Education Specialist- Req 08-0033

Join the team that operates and manages the Hubble Space Telescope and 
its successor, the James Webb Space Telescope. Experience the wonder of 
21st century space exploration in a job that offers a competitive salary 
and generous benefits. The Space Telescope Science Institute is located 
on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland.

    * Work in collaboration with both the informal and formal education
      teams to plan, implement, and evaluate informal education products
      and programs.
    * In partnership with formal educators, develop and implement
      educational extensions to OPO’s ViewSpace self-updating astronomy
      display service for museums and planetariums. Such extensions can
      include educator guides, standards-based activities that are
      coordinated with ViewSpace content, and other novel ways to
      enhance the educational value and impact of ViewSpace.
    * Develop and implement educational exhibits and programs, along
      with educator guides and other supplemental materials and
      activities to accompany them.
    * Develop and implement professional development opportunities for
      educators, exhibit designers and program producers, enabling them
      to benefit from direct links to science expertise based at STScI.
    * Represent STScI at informal education conferences and within the
      NASA informal education infrastructure.
    * Evaluate requests for STScI involvement in informal education
      projects initiated by outside organizations and respond
      appropriately.

Requirements:

BS or BA in Education, Science, Communication or a related field. The 
person must have a minimum of three to five years experience as a museum 
professional. In addition, experience in the formal education community 
is highly desirable.

The position is fast-paced and requires being able to work independently 
as well as participate on teams with varying goals and objectives. This 
position requires someone who has good organizational skills, including 
the ability to multitask, as well as plan and coordinate both short-term 
and long-term projects.

The Informal Education Specialist must possess the knowledge and skills 
for developing collaborative relationships with museum staff, educators, 
professional associations, and scientists, as well as others in the 
community who are involved in science education. Must have the ability 
to communicate clearly, both verbally and written, and work effectively 
on a team with a wide variety of skilled professionals.
